About Our Founder
Having practiced intellectual property in the Washington, DC, office of one of the largest law firms in the US, Garfield Goodrum had an abundance of BigLaw experience before founding our firm in 2012. Now, with over 30 years of experience, his repertoire includes work with leading brands and recognizable designs across the globe.
Over the course of his career, Garfield has established himself as a leader in intellectual property law, prosecuting hundreds of copyrighted and trademarked works while litigating numerous design infringements. His career accolades extend into U.S. federal court and include a $774,000 jury verdict for willful design copyright infringement.
In addition to his work for our firm, Garfield is very active with the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the International Trademark Association (INTA). He is past chair and vice chair of AIPLA’s Industrial Design Committee, was appointed to its Legislative Committee and regularly gives the annual copyright and trademark case reviews at its Annual Meeting. He was invited to be a member of the INTA’s Copyright Committee for its inaugural term and now chairs the Design Harmonization and Emerging Issues Subcommittee of the Designs Committee. He is also a member of the Copyright Society of the U.S. (CSUSA).
Garfield has an ongoing commitment to lifelong learning. Currently, he is working through his LL.M. Thesis at the George Washington University Law School comparing design protection to copyright and sui generis legislation.
